UPOU Journey

When I attended the UP Open University orientation last Saturday, I told myself that THIS IS IT and no more excuses nor turning backs.

Don’t get me wrong, I love studying. I have good credentials during my pre-grad school years. To note, I finished college for three years.

It’s just sometimes I fear the traditional classroom set up, especially now that I’m working. My work is not as hard as it sounds. We are usually busy during the production period and during the off season; we just wait for whatever other tasks to be done: Shoots, AVP’s for school, products, etc. Bottom line, it’s busy like a bee on busy days.

As I was saying, I fear the traditional classroom set up because of the amount of time it demands. I don’t enjoy the surprises that go with it: exams, recitations, etc. I don’t like it when a professor asks a student for an insight then humiliates and contradicts the student afterwards—Hey, it’s an insight! The other things that I didn’t like about the traditional classroom is the effort a student need to go to school, deal with classmates and the money to be spent on too much requirements. (Also, since I consider myself as an environmentalist, we should also think of the trees that can be saved from the papers we use at school).

Those we’re the reasons why I ended up in the UP Open University. I'm still adjusting with this kind of education environment. Believe me, reading the modules is one of the challenging things in distance education--you really have to give time and an open mind for in studying the modules. A lot of discipline is also needed to keep you track.

This distance education thing is really hard, harder than I expected it to be... I know I'll get used to it. I just KNOW.

love, now and always,
