The Facebook Apps I L♥ve

September 29, 2010

I started late with Facebook. To think that it started way back 2004, t’was only last year that year that I used it but I remember registering beforehand.

Facebook, at quick look, didn’t amaze me at all. It was cluttered. I was used to looking at Friendster, whatever I see is whatever I need. But with people, left and right, hugely talking about it—well, it was worth a try.

And it was worth. FB lured me through apps: buddy poke, barn buddy, restaurant city and Farmville.

The Facebook Apps I love
  • Restaurant City
  • Happy Farm
  • Barn Buddy
  • Sorority Life
  • Hotel City
  • Cafe World
  • FarmVille
  • Buddy Poke

and lot more!!!

As time goes it wasn’t the games anymore that hold me but my friends, their walls, their likes. It was overwhelming to get updates from time to time, especially those from, as Shrek movie says it, Far Far Away.

On other news, there’s a new movie coming out this month about the story of the founders of the social-networking website, Facebook.

Here's the trailer:

Updates about the MOVIE soon!

Newspapers in 3D

September 24, 2010
Several years ago in a Journalism school I went to, the question: “if whether or not the traditional newspapers will die in the future and will be replaced by online newspapers” is a favorite topic. Budding journalists would even debate hours about it and we will all settle with the obvious, “Traditional newspapers will not die. The readership of online newspapers is different from the readers of the traditional one. It will not die. Perhaps, in natural death a century from now or in time when trees were all cut down.”

When asked about the future of newspapers, not in my crazy mind came that newspapers will be in 3D. Today, The Nation’s Leading Newspaper, Manila Bulletin goes to the next level of publishing newspaper in 3d. Yes, 3D.

3D or three-dimensional effects trace back its history as early as in 1964. Now in the modern times, 3D is always coined with movies, stickers, interactive games, etc. but never in newspaper.

Enjoy newspapers in an entirely new level.
Experience newspaper in a way you never did before.
Your newsprint in a new dimension…

Manila Bulletin’s ground-breaking 3d edition first issue is now available in all newsstands across the Philippine islands. Get hold of a copy now!

Here are some of the Snapshots of Todays' paper:

Thinking way back, who would have thought that newspapers could come in 3D? And makes me think even more… After 3D, what’s next?

How to make 3D glasses:
(from eHow.com)

Things You'll Need: Posterboard(card board), Red and Cyan(blue)Cellophane wrap, and Glue, OR Cheap pair of sunglasses(you are not using), Red and Blue Sharpe Marker Sheet of clear sturdy plastic (like a piece of transparency) and Scissors

There are 2 ways to make 3D glasses. You can decide which method would be easiest and most cost effective for you.

  1. The first way seems like the cheapest way but the items needed to make the glasses this way may not be things laying around the house. First print out a template for the glasses at http://paperproject.org/PDF_files/3dglasses.pdf
After you cut out the template cut your cellophane to fit the holes in the glasses. Make sure you place the red cellophane on the left eye and the blue on the right. You can either glue or tape the cellophane in place. You are now ready to use your glasses. If you want to make a more sturdy pair just cut out another poster board template and glue it to the another template covering the taped or glued cellophane side.
  1. Another way you can make 3D glasses is to find an old pair of sunglasses. Pop out the lenses. Get a sturdy piece of clear plastic and place the lenses on the sheet and use it as a template, draw a line around the lens and then cut the new plastic lens out. Place the lens back into the sunglasses frame. Color the left lens red with a marker and the right eye blue. You now are ready to watch 3D TV

When Mom texted me, she will be having an operation sometime next week, that O word blown my eyes. Operation? What? Of all the times my mother would call, this is the time she should have called and even scared me to death that she just texted.

She texted, as if signalling me, she wouldn’t want her voice, emotions to be heard. I texted back, same way, I’m afraid too. She didn’t elaborate much about it, what was clear to me was that the doctor found something in her… “polyps” and she wanted to see me and my brother before the operation.

Polyps. Polyps.

I tried processing it on my brain. Poly… means many…. But polyps? What could that be?

When I researched about polyps in google, I made sure I included the question “is it dangerous?” on my search.

I tried reading from, wiki, mayo, blogs of people who had it, blogs of people who underwent operations because of it, but my brain seemed not to work properly, after I read….
Are colon polyps cancerous?
Some colon polyps are benign, which means they are not cancer. But some types of polyps may already be cancer or can become cancer.

I called her this time. When I tried to call her again, she didn’t pick up. I found myself crying. I called again, and now she turned it off.  Is it?

It can’t be. I prayed, called every saint I knew, begged God and mother Mary. It can’t be. And I wouldn’t accept it.

I searched again… Read a Mayo clinic consultancy, “Is polyp removal dangerous?”

I found answers that would calm me…

“A uterine polyp is a growth attached to the inner wall of the uterus. Overgrowth of cells in the lining of the uterus (endometrium) leads to the formation of uterine polyps. These polyps usually are non-cancerous (benign), but they require treatment to eliminate the symptoms.
An operative hysteroscopy is the best approach for treating a uterine polyp like yours. Some small polyps that don't cause symptoms may go away on their own. In those cases, watchful waiting may be appropriate. Due to the size of the polyp you describe and the bleeding you're experiencing, I wouldn't recommend that approach for you.
Though the surgery is necessary, it doesn't have to be scary. An operative hysteroscopy is a minor outpatient surgery. It doesn't require a hospital stay. During the procedure, your doctor will insert a thin, flexible, lighted scope through your vagina and cervix into your uterus. This allows your doctor to see into your uterus and identify the polyp. Your doctor will then insert surgical instruments through the hysteroscope to remove the polyp.
Anesthesia usually is used to decrease discomfort during an operative hysteroscopy. Before the procedure, talk to your doctor about the type of anesthesia and pain control that's right for your situation.
Although most uterine polyps are benign, some pre-cancerous changes of the uterus, such as endometrial hyperplasia, or actual uterine cancers can appear as uterine polyps. After your procedure, your doctor will send the polyp to a laboratory for pathologic evaluation to confirm that it's non-cancerous.
Operative hysteroscopy usually resolves the problem and no follow-up treatment is needed. You can be confident that an operative hysteroscopy is a safe procedure with few risks. It won't affect your ability to have children.
If you have other questions or concerns about uterine polyps, talk to your doctor about them before you undergo treatment.

But I still need to talk to her. She needs me now but I need her more.

Falling Down

September 17, 2010
Getting ready for another day to work. But today's got a new twist, there's no electricity. Usually, during blackouts, I would grab a flashlight to guide my way down our very dangerous stairs. Define dangerous... only one holding bars/guide plus the other is left open and the stairs is very high and tricky too--as if asking you to fall down all the time.

With no flashlight to grab, I went down the stairs. With just 5 steps to go, I fell down--counting 3 steps down. I felt something painful, not on my behind but something on my left leg. I managed to go upstairs again and cry there. After awhile of crying, I went down again to get ready for work. I went down, very careful this time, took a shower, brush, get dress, and left for work.

My left leg is still in pain but it's something I can endure. I thought it was something that I can move on in awhile. But after working the whole day, my leg started to shout its pain and worst, bending the knee became very painful. And the next thing, I knew my left leg and knee were swollen.

Mom decided to pick me up and bring me to the hospital the next day. I first opposed saying, "Three steps lang naman. Hilot nalang." But like how all mothers would deal with the situation plus Mom was unstoppable... hello hospital slash orthopedic.

I think about 20 people are standing in line for the x-ray or consultation. But when we arrived, Mom went straight to the x-ray room and pulled me there. (How can she do that? We never fell in any line whenever we visit a doctor.)
"Remove your bandage, lie down." She said, I mean she dictated me. My Mom is very sweet but today's one of the days that I know she can start a revolution on her own.

They did 4 scans to my left leg and knee. After the x-ray, The doctor looked at my knee. It took him 10 minutes to stare. He advised me to stop using the bandage. OK. When the x-ray film was done, he looked at it and took him an hour or so to figure out. From time to time, he would stare at the x-ray, then on my knee. Sometimes he would touch my knee a little bit and type something on his computer, as if he is researching.

I didn't panic, mom did. The doctor gave a one deep exhale and told us,
"You will feel severe pain in your left knee and leg. Your bone is abnormal, but normal to you. (I remember a Doctor from Mla Docs' said that to me before. It's just a sprain but with the kind of bone you have... Recovery would be 3 to 4 weeks. Stay away from exercises that deals with the lower body, don't walk or run heavily. Don't wear heels. And avoid giving the body weight to the left foot. See me again, if anything goes wrong--if the  swelling continues, bruises appears, if there will be extreme pain.

Don't forget to drink milk. "

Then, I asked, Is strawberry milk acceptable? He laughed. And said yes. =)

I should take more care next time.

Nearing 100 posts….

September 14, 2010
Current Mood: {^⌣^}
Current Music: Cooler Than Me by Daniel Kim [download here]
Quote of the day: I'm under your spell.

From a blog that endlessly feature my rants, whines and sentiments, it matured to something more. I believe most of my contents now are helpful, not just for the suicidos. It’s still emo most of the time but, as you see, I’m trying to improve it by sharing movie previews and reviews, free stuffs, events happening, cool products and the likes.
I have a big plan for this blog but it wouldn’t happen anytime soon, prolly in one or two years.

So… After 100 post what will happen?

The blog will still look the same. Yes. Pink.  At least, 3 post/update every week.
And a solemn promise of more important and substantial updates.

What I’ll be posting and the all new sections / categories of my Blog…

-         Spoiling you with 4 to 8 movie reviews or previews every month for your guilty movie pleasures.

Be there…
-         Buy yourself a planner!  Tons of events.. SSS: Shows, Sales, Scenes. I will log event highlights of the month here that you can’t just resist to BE THERE!

-         The best things in life are free. All the free stuff coming your way posted on zupermia.com! Oh not just the free stuff, I will also share all the BIG-BIG discounts across the nation.

Warp Portal
-         Warp Portal is a term from Ragnarok Online—it’s something where you enter brings you to another place.
In the Warp Portal section of my blog, I will feature different places that you can check out on your next travel… BTW, this doesn’t necessarily have to be the vacation type things like beaches and spots, I think what I’ll feature are more onto the unexplored places in the Philippines!

I am ZUPER, you are ZUPER
-         I bet this will be a cute section. If my blog ever gets popular, this section will turn you into an instant celebrity. Kidding aside, what I’ll do in the ‘I am ZUPER, you are ZUPER’ section of my site is to feature someone, yes—a person, in my blog. He/she will be the ZUPER person of the week. Basically, it’s like the autograph type thing to get to know that person. Plus, the person gets to promote his/her blog, fb, website, business, etc. Yes! This is all about exposure and stardom. lol.

So… these are the latest addition to my site. Still an outlet of my rants, whines and sentiments with just a lil transformation and hopefully, we’ll all get used to it along the way. Good Times…(just like how Mo says it.)

love, now and always,
